A quick guide

How to use this tool

  1. Choose a JPEG, PNG, WebP, or static SVG image. SVG files are validated and sanitized before preview or rasterization.
  2. Drag over the image to draw a freeform crop. Choose Original image, 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, or portrait 9:16 to constrain its ratio.
  3. Drag inside the selected rectangle to move it, or drag a corner handle to resize. Use arrow keys to move a focused selection and Shift + arrow for 10-pixel steps.
  4. For precise placement, enter crop X/Y and width/height in source-image pixels. Use New selection to draw another crop or Full image to reset the bounds.
  5. Changing the preview size or device orientation does not change crop pixel coordinates. The export uses the decoded source image resolution, not the preview size.
  6. For SVG, choose a rasterization width and height first; crop coordinates are measured in those output pixels.
  7. Choose PNG, JPEG, or WebP. PNG and WebP preserve transparency; JPEG uses the selected background color.
  8. Crop the image and inspect the output dimensions, preview, and download.
Example

To remove a 100-pixel border around a 1200 × 800 raster image, set X and Y to 100 and the crop width and height to 1000 and 600. For a viewBox-only SVG, choose a raster size such as 1200 × 800 before setting crop coordinates.

Frequently asked questions

Does the cropper preserve SVG vector data?

No. SVG is rendered at the chosen pixel dimensions before cropping. The download is a PNG, JPEG, or WebP pixel image, not SVG.

Can I crop SVG files that contain animation or external assets?

No. Active content, animation, event handlers, external resources, and unsafe URL references are rejected. Externally loaded fonts and images are not supported.

How do I crop an SVG without width and height?

Enter both rasterization dimensions. A viewBox may supply an aspect ratio, but it does not always define an intended pixel resolution.

Does resizing the preview change the exported crop?

No. Crop coordinates are stored in source-image pixels, and the crop is rendered from the decoded source resolution. Resizing the page or preview only changes how the selection is displayed.

How do EXIF-rotated photos behave?

Supported EXIF orientation is applied when the browser decodes a JPEG. The preview and crop coordinates use that oriented image; the export does not apply the rotation a second time.

Will transparency be retained?

PNG and WebP preserve transparent pixels. JPEG has no transparency and fills transparent areas with the background color you choose.
